the design process
Our first consultation will allow me to understand your requirements, ideas, personal likes/dislikes - these details are essential in setting the parameters within which your design can work. My time spent in your garden will also help me understand the potential of the environment and its qualities - harnessing these ensure the design ‘fits’ and incorporates everything the space offers.
This information will form the basis of a written brief and a copy of the brief will be given to you for agreement and to ensure I have a complete understanding of everything you wish to include.
client brief
It is important to assess the site correctly - this requires the services of a professional surveyor who will produce an in-depth topographic survey detailing existing trees, levels, services, buildings. I can provide details of a surveyor for you to contact or act on your behalf in this respect.
At this early stage, I also carry out a site appraisal to assess microclimates, soil, hydrology, aspect etc - all the necessary quantitative and qualitative information required to build a successful design and planting scheme.
survey
I produce some design ideas at this stage which will have been informed by all data from the survey, appraisal, and our consultation. You will select one of these to progress forward to the final design concept.
concept
The final design will be presented as a masterplan detailing the layout and incorporating any revisions from the concept stage.
masterplan
The last stage in making the design shine is the planting. I produce a planting plan specifying the plants and their siting in the scheme - this is accompanied by a planting schedule.
planting plan
I provide a maintenance plan to assist you in maintaining the planting and the integrity of the design. I am always happy to give advice on the chosen plants and work closely with you in their selection.
